Some interesting things to celebrate the European Day of Languages…

Hi everybody!

 Next Tuesday, 26th of ´September, all the countries in the Council of Europe will celebrate the European Day of Languages. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could celebrate it as well?

By emailing this information and posting it widely on the Internet, we can quickly and easily spread this important piece of news.

Help us celebrate this initiative, it is important for languages!

The Survey of English Usage at UCL is very pleased to announce the publication of a new App for Apple hand-held devices such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

 The interactive Grammar of English (iGE) is a complete course in English grammar written for first year undergraduates, students at high schools and teachers of the English language. For more information see: www.ucl.ac.uk/english-usage/apps/ige

 The App is partly based on the popular Internet Grammar of English (still available at www.ucl.ac.uk/internet-grammar <http://www.ucl.ac.uk/internet-grammar>), but thoroughly updated, revised and expanded.

The App contains exercises which make use of hundreds of natural language examples taken from our ICE-GB corpus. Students can time themselves, or even, for additional ‘jeopardy’, complete exercises against the clock. Feedback is given on the students’ answers. The App has been optimised for hand-held devices, with slick animations and optional sound effects.

Anyone who has an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch can get the ‘Lite’ version from the Apple App Store or iTunes by clicking on the following link:

Una buena noticia para usuarios de Internet y de de las compras online, ya que por fin Amazon, la gran tienda virtual, ha abierto sucursal en España. De momento tiene pocos artículos, y por ejemplo, los libros están sólo en español (no parece tener acceso a los catálogos americano, británico, etc.), así que lo mismo muchos seguimos siendo usuarios de nuestras sucursales de siempre. Por lo menos se supone que el tiempo de entrega se reducirá.
